With state assessments taking place this month, consistent attendance helps students feel confident, prepared, and supported. Just as important as being present is being on time. Arriving late can cause students to miss important instructions and disrupt the start of their day.
Campuses open early each morning and offer free breakfast to all students. ๐ฅ Arriving early can help families avoid drop-off traffic, allow students to enjoy breakfast with their peers, and help them start the day in a calm, positive way. A Be Here & Bloom On-time Student Tracking Chart is available for families to download, and teachers have a classroom version available.

As we head into the busy spring season, we want to keep you informed about an upcoming administrative update regarding your athlete's paperwork. Per the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) guidelines, an updated athletic physical form doesnโt expire until April 1st of the following year. This means that if a physical is dated on or after April 1, 2025, it is valid until April 1, 2026. Because of this, you may see that your studentโs current Healthy Roster Documents are scheduled to expire soon.
We know that seeing an "expired" notification can be stressful, so we want to be absolutely clear: This expiration does NOT make your athlete ineligible for their current spring sport. If your student is currently participating in a sport, they are fully cleared to finish out their season without interruption.
๐ซWhy is the system resetting on April 1st?
This automatic expiration is a necessary administrative step to rollover our system and begin preparing for the upcoming athletic seasons. Resetting the Healthy Roster profiles allows us to clear the way for:
โช๏ธThe 2026/2027 School Year: Ensuring all physicals and waivers are up-to-date for fall sports.
โช๏ธSummer Activities: Processing new and returning athletes for summer workouts, padded camps, and pre-season conditioning starting in June.
โช๏ธSpring Cheer Tryouts: Processing athletes for the upcoming cheer season.
โช๏ธVarsity Spring Football: Clearing athletes for padded spring football practices.
๐ซWhat do you need to do?
โช๏ธFor current spring athletes: No immediate action is required to finish your current season.
โช๏ธFor athletes participating in summer activities, 26/27 sports, Spring Cheer, or Spring Football: You will need to upload new, updated NMAA physical forms and sign the required 2026-2027 documents in Healthy Roster prior to participating in those specific upcoming activities, tryouts, or practices.

So many great things are happening across our district.

To streamline our Out-Of-Zone (OOZ) process for returning students and to provide our families with more peace of mind, we have replaced the full annual application with a simplified Letter of Intent. ๐
๐ฑFor current OOZ students in grades Kโ4, 6, and 7, who have been pre-approved, parents/guardians will receive a Letter of Intent via the guardian's email listed in PowerSchool beginning today. If you expect a letter and don't receive one this week, please call Let's Talk! 575-812-8573 starting Tuesday, February 17. ๐ป
๐ซHere are a few exceptions:
โช๏ธStudents transitioning to Middle School: Please note that all current 5th-grade students moving to 6th grade next year must complete a new Out-of-Zone application if they are requesting an OOZ school.
โช๏ธAll new students to APS and incoming 6th graders will complete the OOZ application.
โช๏ธIf you are returning to APS but have not previously completed an OOZ application, you will complete a new application as well.
โจThe application window for new requests will open on March 2nd.โจ

We want to remind drivers of the importance of using caution as you drive through school zones and encounter ๐ school buses in the mornings and afternoons. Please obey school zones' speed limits, and come to a COMPLETE STOP while the bus stop signal is out, and only proceed driving after the STOP signal is REMOVED by the bus driver. ๐
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe.
