Hello Parents and Guardians, This year has gotten off to a whirlwind start. We are excited to see students participating and supporting upcoming games. Homecoming is right around the corner. We have amazing students at AHS who have adjusted wonderfully to the new morning procedures with the Weapons Detection System. The first days were interesting, but now, the lines go smooth and usually with out much of a hitch. Thank you to you and our students for your patience as we all learn this new system. #itsagreatdayintigercountry 🎉At this week's Regular Board Meeting, Deputy Superintendent Steven Starkovich presented the six new Virtual Welding kits the Career & Technical Education program recently received. These kits will be used in beginning welding courses, allowing students to practice and learn basic welding skills. 🧰 Kits will also be introduced to middle school students to excite them about the Welding program. 😎 After the board meeting, attendees and board members had the chance to try the welding kits. 📣Congratulations to the TeachOtero grant recipients! 😍 Last May, the Sacramento Mountains Foundation accepted applications for the TeachOtero Grant. The incentive was up to $1,000 in grants to Otero County Public & Private Schools teachers. 😄 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫Great news!!! AHS received 6 grants! In total, APS was awarded 19 grants! If students are not in compliance, they will be escorted to the school nurse's office. Policy J-5350 JLCD (for High School Requirements) states: High school students may carry medications in the following situations... • They do not require supervision to take their medication(s) NOTE: Those students who do require supervision/monitoring will follow the procedures for Elementary and Middle School Students. •The medication is not a controlled drug, such as Ritalin, codeine, morphine, etc. •The medication is in the original container, which has a legible, professional label. •The student carries no more than two doses in the container. •Parents/guardians should be aware of students carrying medication. How does it work?
